And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common.
Acts 2:43-44 (ESV)
I love trying to picture what the beginning of the Church was like. I can't even imagine the awe that swirled around as people began to get saved and the Church began to grow by the hundreds and sometimes by the thousands. Jesus Christ, the man who went around performing miracles, was resurrected from the dead after he was brutally crucified! Not only that but as he spoke his departing message and ascended into Heaven, he left those who believed in him a special gift, the gift of the Holy Spirit. All of these people who originally had nothing in common now shared this very precious faith. Jews and Gentiles could now see each other as equals. All of the divisions created by man were made new by the coming of our Savior.
This commonality among believers is still alive to this very day. While there is diversity within the Church, we are all bound together by this one core belief. One of the most amazing things about IGNITE is seeing this played out within my team. There are people from different states, people from different coasts, people from different countries. There are people who like to sing, there are people who like to dance, there are people who like to play instruments. There are people who are outgoing, there are people who are shy, there are people in between. No matter where each of us fit into all of this, we all come together in the morning, the afternoon, and at night, and worship the same God together. To me, there is nothing else on this planet that can bind people tighter than loving our Awesome God.
