Revelation 1:9

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.
Revelation 1:9 (ESV)

We don't often get to know what the future holds. My whole life has been a tangled web of worry because I always feel the need to know what comes next. When I was eleven years old I bought a book called, "America's Top 100 Colleges." I wasn't the biggest fan of junior high or high school so I was more than ready to rush off to the next phase in my life. I was a really good golfer and was banking on a college scholarship to get me into whatever college I wanted. Little did I know, I never would attended any of the colleges in the book and I would also never play collegiate golf. As I continued to grow, my desires changed and I ended up on a completely different path. Quite frankly, I was doing exactly what I said I wouldn't do, going to college 45 minutes away from my hometown. Oh how disappointed my eleven year old self would have been if she could have known!
The beautiful thing about this verse, and the whole Book of Revelation for that matter, is that the Son of Man gave John a layout of exactly what the future will look like for the world. Not only that, but He promised it. And we know from experience that all of His promises get fulfilled. We have pages and pages of His Word that prove that. My vapor of a life will change continually from what I think I have planned. But it is by the grace of God that the changes happen. He knows what is best for my future. While I might not get to know the exact details of my life, He gave me a promise as well. "In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that were I am you may be also," (John 14:2,3). That sounds like a great future to me!
