As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
Psalm 17:15 (ESV)
All week we have been covering contentment in this life. This verse is the ultimate conclusion: when we get to Heaven we will have everlasting satisfaction. All that we went through in this life will be eternally washed away and we will be in the presence of our perfect Maker. All of the times that we failed to find earthly contentment in Christ will be forgotten. The times that we didn't have enough money, the times we were persecuted for our love of Christ, the times our families were falling apart, will be left in this world. But, the blessing hardly stops there.
Many times in the bible, different writers talk about the first moment we enter Jesus presence. In 1 John 3:2, John states, "Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is." Job speaks of this moment saying, "he sees His face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness," (Job 33:26). Songs speak about it as well. The first one that comes to mind is "I Can Only Imagine", by Kutless. There is a part of the song that says, "I can only imagine what my eyes will see when Your face is before me." Even secular songs bring up meeting Him. Brad Paisley's, "When I Get Where I Am Going," says, "When I get where I am going and I see my Maker's face, I'll stand forever in the light of His amazing grace." In so many places you can find people imagining what this everlasting contentment will be like.
