Luke 21:19

By your endurance you will gain your lives.
Luke 21:19 (ESV)

Some find it exciting to talk about the end of times. For others, it causes fear. In Luke chapter 21, Jesus foretells of earthquakes, wars, famine, and more, that will accompany the end of times. Fortunately, He also gives believers reassurance that no matter what comes during the end, "not a hair on [our] heads will perish." I can't really think of a greater promise to follow a  verse after verse description of great suffering and destruction.
For any of us who have been in the church for a while, we know it can get easy to take this salvation for granted. We forget the brutal, savage, and heartbreaking crucifixion of our Savior. The gory details, the bloody mess, and the shattering separation from His Father. The gravity of it slips from our minds. We might watch a movie around Easter that reminds us of the great sacrifice, and we might even cry, but come Monday morning, it's back to our lives. Why do we do this? Is it because it's too painful for us to think of? Is it because it is too difficult to even imagine that kind of suffering? Is it out of selfishness or comfortableness? Is it because if we imagine that type of crucifixion of our Lord we might have more conviction towards the life we are living? If I were to guess, all of us can relate to one or more of those reasons. For me, its all the above.
Regardless of if the end of times happen in our lifetime or not, Jesus saved us from what we all deserve. Whether we live through the earthquakes, persecution from our families, famines, and so on, or go to be our Father before that, we have been spared from an eternity in Hell. An eternity of suffering through the worst possible things we could ever imagine. The only reasonable response to this amazing grace is to remember what He did for us and in turn, endure through all the things this life brings and praise Him through it. He never promised it would be easy. In fact, He promised it would be difficult. But He also promised that we will suffer no eternal spiritual harm if we put our faith in Him.

Personal Application
I am going to memorize this simple but powerful verse. No matter what life throws at me, I can be reminded of Christ's sacrifice and the promise He has given me.
